2 Step Sparring

Ibo Matsoki

Two Step Sparring follows on from Three Step Sparring and is designed to allow the student to progress and learn more advanced techniques. Two Step Sparring uses the same distance and timing as with three step sparring, but with a variety of attacks.

Syllabus:

  • 1 & 2 applicable to 6th Kup

  • 1-4 applicable to 5th Kup

  • 1-5 applicable to 4th Kup and above

Format

  • Attacker always starts in Right L Stance. No measure required.
  • Defender always starts from Parallel Ready Stance.
  • Ki Hap to indicate ready (attack and defence). Ki Hap on counter attack.

Number 1

Attack:

Step 1) Right front snap kick landing in a right walking ready stance

Step 2) Step forwards into a left walking stance performing a twin vertical high punch.

Defence:

Step 1) Step back with right leg into a left walking stance, performing an X fist pressing block.

Step 2) Step back with left leg into right walking stance, performing an outer forearm high wedging block.

Counter Attack

Grasp opponent's shoulders and perform a left upwards knee kick (whilst holding the shoulders). Land in right walking ready stance.

 

Number 2

Attack:

Step 1) Right front snap kick landing in a right walking ready stance

Step 2) Step forwards into a left walking stance performing a left back-fist high strike.

Defence:

Step 1) Step back with left leg into a left L stance, performing a right outer forearm low block.

Step 2) Step back with right leg into left walking stance, performing a double forearm high block.

Counter Attack

Slip the left leg into left fixed stance, performing a left middle punch.

 

Number 3

Attack:

Step 1) Step forward into right walking stance performing a right side-fist downward strike.

Step 2) Perform a left low turning kick, landing in right L stance.

Defence:

Step 1) Step back with right leg into a left walking stance, performing a left outer forearm rising block.

Step 2) Step back with left leg into left L stance, performing a right waist block.

Counter Attack

Remain in left L stance, performing a right knife-hand high strike.

Number 4

Attack:

Step 1) Perform a right high turning kick, landing in left L ready stance.

Step 2) Step forwards into left fixed stance, perform a left middle punch.

Defence:

Step 1) Step back with right leg into right L stance, perform a left outer forearm high block.

Step 2) Step back with left leg into left L stance, performing a right outer forearm inwards middle block.

Counter Attack

Left middle knee turning kick, landing in left L ready stance.

Number 5

Attack:

Step 1) Step forwards with right leg into right walking stance, performing a right for-fist middle punch.

Step 2) Perform a left low side piercing kick, landing in right L ready stance.

Defence:

Step 1) Step back with left leg into right walking stance, performing a right palm hooking block.

Step 2) Step back with right leg into right L stance, performing a left outer forearm downward block.

Counter Attack

Slip the left leg into left walking stance, perform a right elbow high strike.
